An innovation for the animal
welfare
In
my agsc6 subject we’ve once watch a movie Temple Grandin. I guess a lot of you
readers know who she is. We all being normal are just laugh when we saw an
autistic person especially when we are in our childhood. Why? Maybe because of
how they look or the way they act. First impression most of the time are not
really good.
Temple
Grandin is an autistic. But who knows that this person will be a doctor
someday. Many people laugh at her when she did her first study the behavior of
the animals. No one with the normal thinking do that before because we always
say that they are just animals, not knowing that the study she have done has a
big impact in our living. The example is that because she has
studied the animal behavior she improved the facilities of the farm prior to
slaughtering, because in her study she saw that the old practice or facility
was not appropriate, it just only give tension or stress to the cattle and so
it affect the quality of the meat or it was not that good. And because of that
she learned that we as human owe them some respect being the food that we eat
or consumed we have to treat them well. The improvement she did was the
concreting of the ramp before proceeding to the slaughter house. The ramp
affects the behavior of the animals and it gives stress to them. Like the light
that destruct them to move forward, the hanging cloths or long sleeves of the
worker on the ramp, the ramp itself it should be in the curved form because the
behavior of the animal has natural tendency of going back to where they came
from and the side of the ramp must not be exposed or open for the light. This
innovation that she did is now being practiced.
